At first, only one test matters: does the raw output sound mixed and usable, or thin and obviously synthetic? Generate in the genre you actually need — not the demo's cherry-picked one — and listen on real speakers before you trust the marketing reel.
A one-shot generation is a slot machine. The tools worth paying for let you steer — separate the stems, regenerate one section, lock what you like and reroll the rest. Control is the whole difference between "close enough" and "exactly right."
"AI sound" covers very different jobs. Some tools nail full songs with vocals; others are built for voiceover and SFX, or for royalty-free background beds. Match the tool to the task — a song generator makes a poor foley library, and vice versa.
The most boring spec is the most important one. Read the licence before you subscribe: are outputs yours to monetize, is it cleared for commercial and client work, and does any of that depend on the plan? "Royalty-free" means nothing if the terms quietly claw it back.
